Make boat panes out of acrylic glass, replace yacht panes

We offer you many years of experience in the manufacture and installation of individual Glazing for boats and Yacht panes.

Various well-known companies have placed their trust in us over the years, including:

  • Fr. Lürssen Werft GmbH & Co.KG
  • Fr. Fassmer GmbH & Co. KG
  • Abeking & Rasmussen

You want your Glazing for boats substitute? We supply shipyards and boat owners in the North and Baltic Sea region

Replacement window glass for boats

Boat discs are as individual as the boats themselves! In addition to classic boat windows or cockpit windows, we also develop and manufacture glazing for staircases and railing cladding on yachts, as well as sliding hatches and bulkheads for sailing boats

Our tempering furnace can  PLEXIGLAS® or Polycarbonate deform up to 4 meters in length. This means that large-format boat panes and curved yacht panes can also be produced.

Acrylic glass panes for ocean-going shipping

Heavy mineral glass panes are predominantly used to this day, especially in ocean-going shipping. When replacing these ship windows, delivery problems are often observed, which can lead to horrific prices and long lay times. Acrylic glass offers one for these panes cheaper alternative.

We have experience in the production of plastic panes of the following types:

  • Fixed window
  • Bulkheads
  • Sliding hatches
  • Pop-up window
  • Portholes
  • Entry gaps
  • Hinged window
  • Sliding window
  • Handrail washers
  • Stair glazing

We use in the manufacture of your windows PMMA (Acrylic glass), as well Polycarbonate with or without an abrasion-resistant coating.

The mold construction sometimes contributes significantly to the costs of a deformed boat disc. Shapes are required when the acrylic glass or polycarbonate panes have to be deformed three-dimensionally. If this is not the case, two-dimensional templates are sufficient to produce replacement plastic panes.

Your boat windows or yacht windows should be preserved for as long as possible! Over time, UV radiation, salt crystals or sand impair the appearance of the material.

Here are a few tips:

Rinse off your slices! The less contact the plastic discs have with solid materials (rub with a cloth), the better. This also applies to cleaning. If wiping with a cloth is not absolutely necessary, it should also be avoided. There is a risk of grains of sand or streaks of dust being polished in. If it is very dirty, it should be cleaned with high pressure (but without contact).

Do not use aggressive cleaning agents! - We recommend plastic cleaners or vinegar water: Basically, both acrylic glass and polycarbonate panes can be damaged by cleaners (glass cleaner, turpentine, paint thinner). Even simple glass cleaners can contain tensides, which can lead to stress cracks in acrylic glass.

You can find detailed care instructions here!

Wir kaufen Rubber seals for boat windows  at the company Mordhorst & Bockendahl GmbH in Wilhelmshaven.
Boat disks can be attached to the ship in a variety of ways. The three most common types of installation are:
  • Gluing in or firmly gluing with side walls or cut-outs
  • Insertion in aluminum or steel frame as well as gluing and / or screwing - then the frame including the disc is screwed into the hole cutout
  • Wedge the panes by means of watertight clamping profiles / piping profile
Because of the optical quality requirements that are placed on a plug-in bulkhead, we recommend the use of acrylic glass. Makrolon is more shatterproof. Due to the less exposed location, however, we mainly manufacture plug-in bulkheads from Plexiglas®. It should also be borne in mind that Makrolon is usually used in thinner thicknesses. Plug bulkheads in particular often need a certain thickness in order to be able to insert them flush in a frame guide or, for example, to install locks.
Pay attention to the correct use of the primer and the sealant combination. The primer should usually be black (in order to protect the sealant from UV radiation as well as possible). It should be applied in such a way that it protects the sealant from direct sunlight - i.e. a little more generously than the sealant itself. You can find more information in the Sikaflex marine manual from page 46.
The templates for the discs are usually made of plywood or hardboard. Under certain circumstances, it would also be possible to make it out of sturdy cardboard. Stencils made of paper are rather unfavorable - dimensions are often too imprecise here.
There is no general answer to this question and it depends on the specifics of the project. Due to the different properties of the materials, however, it can be determined which is the more suitable material:

Polycarbonate (or brand name “Makrolon®”):

Advantage:

  • Extremely break and impact resistant
  • Cold deformable

Disadvantage:

  • More sensitive to scratches than acrylic glass
  • Becomes milky faster than acrylic glass
  • Larger scattering effects from light (transparency not so good as a window)

Acrylic glass (or brand name “Plexiglas®”):

Advantage:

  • Crystal clear transparent view
  • Less sensitive to scratches than polycarbonate
  • Yellows much more slowly
  • UV stable
  • Better view (better suited for viewing windows)

Disadvantage:

  • In thinner versions, it is not as shatterproof as polycarbonate
  • Not cold deformable

Polycarbonate has a light transmission of 86% and Acrylic glass has a light transmission of 92%. There is initially no clear favorite for your new one Boat disc. However, let's look at a few clarifying questions about this:

  • Are impact-resistant panes required for the sea? -> polycarbonate
  • Sailing and sport boats for private use? -> Usually acrylic glass (in approx. 90% of the cases)
  • Ships in the industrial sector that have to meet certain safety standards? -> polycarbonate
  • Unusually thick plastic panes in various colors? - Acrylic glass is used here, as the selection of commonly available polycarbonate panes is more limited than the selection of acrylic glass panes. Especially applies to very thick panes and unusual colors.

Reduce blindness effects on boat windows:

LETO Kunststoff-Technik uses high-quality acrylic glass or polycarbonate in the manufacture of boat windows. These materials are suitable for both saltwater and freshwater environments and are UV-resistant. The high-quality acrylic glass boat panes can be used both in inland and at sea. The effects of blindness are also reduced by careful care of the windows.

Boat windows for sport boats, sailing boats or yachts

Plastic ages over the years, and the panes are exposed to permanent weather conditions and high levels of UV radiation. This is why they go blind after a few years and / or develop cracks and breaks. Based on a template / sample of your panes, we can make a duplicate of your existing pane for you. You are also welcome to send us your pictures via Whatsapp, we will then contact you.

Develop & manufacture boat windows

We are able to Single-U. Series production to produce for boats and yachts. So you have come to the right place even if you need larger quantities.

By a modern 5-axis CNC milling technology or laser cutting system and a large and modern one Tempering furnace, we can process all types of yacht panes and ship glazing.

Taking into account the economic aspect, we also take on the installation. We are called Contractor or subcontractor active.

Eigentlich fing alles damit an, dass wir ein paar Schnippel Acrylglas- Platten benötigten – und Fa. Leto hatte da wohl noch „etwas“ in der Restekiste liegen.Faszinierend, was draus geworden ist! ( sh. Www. Lebensweisen-Schortens / Die Langsamstrasse / Wunderland….
